Now I was being dragged right into the heart of it.
The car pulled up in front of a building with no windows on the ground floor. Just a black door with a red neon sign that said "Paradise Club" in cursive letters. Even in the afternoon sun, the sign looked dirty and wrong.
"Out," one of the men said to me.
My legs felt like jelly as I stood up. The smell hit me immediately - cigarettes, cheap perfume, and something else I couldn't name. Something that made my stomach turn.
Big Jim walked ahead of us, his expensive shoes clicking on the cracked sidewalk. He pushed open the black door, and I followed him into hell.
