How every second in that forest, I thought I might never see these faces again. Everyone kept calling me a hero but that’s not what I was. I wasn’t a hero. I was just a mother. A mother who went after her child. A mother who couldn’t live with herself if she didn’t try. That’s all. There was no courage in that, not really, just instinct. Declan was still holding onto my arm when I looked up and Ryan was standing a few feet away, watching me. This time, he now had a smile on his face. For a second, I just stared at him.

I chuckled at the state I'm in. I, Harper Williams is about to die with a peace sign formed in my hand. The different events of my life suddenly flashed right before my eyes.
