Four Years Ago Noah's POV: Hearing the bell going off, I stood up from my chair as my back made a cracking sound. I did not even realize for how long I was sitting in front of my desktop. As I checked who it was, it turned out to be Eva, my girlfriend of five years. Opening the door, I welcomed her in the apartment we share together and she stared at me with a face which said she could murder a person right here out of rage. What got her in a knot today!!

No matter how she looked at it, the story was the same: progressive conduction system damage. His heart was a traitor. Slow, insidious.

Rhys and the doctors worked with tense precision. Eventually, a beating wolf heart was pulled from my chest. He didn't even look closely. He escorted the heart straight into Cora's OR. My chest was hollow. My body lay alone on the table. The heart monitor flatlined with a harsh, endless beep. The guards were startled. "How is she dead? Isn't she a double-heart wolf?" one guard asked, confused. "You actually believed the Alpha's coaxing?" another guard sneered coldly. "Good that she's dead. That's what she gets for defying the Alpha and leaving her sister to die."

From the corridor came a cold voice. "It's an honor for him to die for my husband. Do it! Besides, if you hadn't delayed things and affected the surgery, would my husband have had a sudden episode of heart palpitations? No more nonsense. Take his heart now!" The attending doctor said quietly, "Ms. Brewer, there's no heart available in the hospital right now. Removing his heart means—" Before he could finish, Tara cut him off impatiently. "If there's no heart, then just use an artificial one. I'll pay for it. If he doesn't survive, it just means he's unlucky."

She kept begging, "Joseph, I was wrong. I won't dare to do it again. Now, it's just the two of us in our family. We only have each other. Please forgive me. I'll obey your every command…" He did not look at her. He only talked to the bodyguards. "Bind her to the bed!" he ordered coldly. He took out a scalpel and slowly unbuttoned Yvette's shirt as she watched in terror. "This heart belongs to Wendy. You don't deserve it, so you should return it to her," he said. "No! Are you out of your mind? I'll die without this heart!" yelled Yvette. Yvette was finally afraid. She had always been adored by her brother.

They came for my heart. Mira reached her bare hand into my chest, gripping around the muscle that kept me alive. Her hand was soft, warm, almost comforting. But when the soft tissue was cut away, I screamed. The heart kept beating as she ripped it from my chest, my vision full of stars and fireworks. How was I even still alive? What would it take to wake me from this nightmare? Mira handed the heart to Celeste, who wasted no time in ripping it entirely in two. The door across the room burst open, flooding the room in silver light. Mira and Celeste panicked, trying to hide what they were doing.

I had gone on blunt rampage on a full moon. "I'm sorry." I humbled. "Good boy. Now, where were we?" He paused slightly, and continued. "She has a bandaged heart, yet bleeding." Blood divulged, sitting on all fours, and resting his head on his crossed fore limbs. "What the f.. what do you mean?" I was about using the 'F' word again, but I remembered Blood's threat just in time to eat off the remaining fucking letters. "She has not gotten over an ache buried deep within her heart. It could be a nightmare, a bad encounter, or the death of a loved one."

His legs flattered, he gripped the griddles of cot to balance him. “The condition is called tachycardia. The baby’s heartbeat suddenly dropped, and this happened,” the doctor explained. Theodore lifted the baby into his arms, tears streaming down his face. His hope, his joy—everything shattered in an instant. He couldn’t believe destiny could be so cruel. The child who had brought him and Aria together was gone. It was unbearable. He kissed the tiny hands, his eyes lingering on them, hoping for a miracle, for the baby to come alive. But miracles happen in fairy tales, not in real life, where one must face bitter truths.
