He bit my neck and broke my rib before he signaled Kimberly to stab me with the dagger right into my chest. The knife, plated with silver, tore through the meat of my chest with a godless crack, and the volume of its silence was a thunderclap that vibrated in all my nerves. The dagger had plunged itself directly over my heart, blazing hot as red-hot iron. A primal scream burst through me, ripping open rawness due to the pain as the golden wolf's features quivered, and I fell to the floor with a heavy thud.

But he only smiled, the kind of smile that had haunted my nightmares for years. “You ruined me, Blake. You betrayed your own blood. You left me to rot while you walked free. But here?” He gestured around us, eyes glinting. “Here you don’t get to run. Here you belong to me.” The knife caught the light again, and I flinched, pressing my back against the rough bark of a tree. My chest constricted, breath short and ragged. And then, another sound came to me, a heartbeat that I could tell wasn't mine. It wasn't his as well, it was something else.

Yasmine jumps up using her claws to grab and slash at his throat as she climbs up his front and then half flips over his head to be practically sitting on his shoulders, making him turn, leaving his chest exposed. Zachariah then runs in and, with nothing in his way, slams his clawed hand into Henry’s chest, wrapping his fingers around his heart. As Zachariah pulls Henry’s heart out of his chest, Yasmine slides out the Gurkha Kukri knife that she had inherited from Henry after that very first encounter with him.

His voice was hoarse with panic. Ashton leaned against the podium, crossing his arms as he watched with a satisfied smirk. "What do you think, love? Should we believe him?" I chuckled, the sound low and menacing. "Believe him?" I crouched down to Denver’s level, staring into his terrified eyes. "You don’t get to negotiate your way out of this. You sealed your fate the second you thought you could steal from me and live to tell the tale." I reached behind me and pulled out my new favorite knife—a sleek, curved blade with an obsidian handle. The blade glinted under the chandelier’s light, sharp enough to split a soul in two.

He grabs my face and turns it toward Cael, who is holding our mother while she bleeds onto the stone, and toward the other me, who is staring at me with pure terror in his amber eyes. The knife in my hand pulses once in time with my own heart, then again in time with Cael's, then a third time in time with the other me. I cannot tell which heartbeat the blade wants, and I cannot stop my arm from rising.

We ran to see what caused that great noise, and found one of the warriors who was sparing with our specially designed electric batons had unintentionally activated the hidden silver blade that elongated, and pierced his partner’s heart. He collapsed on the ground with blood gushing out of the opened wound. I rushed over to him with Mierra at my side and parted through the crowd of warriors. I knelt down by his side and placed my hand over the wound. “It’s going to be okay.” I was reassuring him with hope in my heart. I felt his heavy breaths as the silver delineate his veins showing darkened lines. I removed my blouse and placed it over the wound.

He just rolled his eyes like it really wasn't a big deal. When I was fully half-naked, I hugged myself, feeling the warmness of the room. It felt like we were slowly being roasted. Electricity travelled through me when I glanced at Fenris' firm chest. It looked so hard like a stone-cold. Our eyes met again and my body cells felt hotter. He grabbed the knife on the table and the silver handle shined through my eyes. It was a unique silver, glass-looking knife that I'd never seen before. "Now, Kira, I know this may look strange to you, but I need you to strike this knife to my heart."

"Ahhh!" Then the shot rang out. The proles winced, half turned away from me to growl at something. I didn't even think about what I was doing. Suddenly the serrated knife was in my hand and I just rammed it in the side right into his heart. He yelped, jumped away from me, ripping the knife out of his own body, but the serrated blade did not voluntarily give up the tissue. The proles practically tore their own hearts out, stumbled another half meter and then collapsed bleeding. The eyes in which the aggressive madness of these creatures lived, fixed on me, he breathed out his last breath. There were two holes in his body. A small bullet hole in the flank and a large, deadly one in the heart.
