We drove the dagger and shard into the ground, light erupting, the cage shattering, the mirror collapsing, the void’s scream—my scream—mixing with hers, the shadow’s, as they vanished, not gone but pushed back, the chaos retreating, the cliffs stilling. We fell, Lucian catching me, Lyra beside us, the bond burning—us, alive, together. Killian and Mara staggered up, bloodied, wide-eyed. “Another one?” Killian gasped, his staff broken, his face pale. “How many damn Angels are there?” I clutched the dagger, the mark pulsing, Lyra’s shard glowing, the bond steadying me. “Four,” I said, my voice hoarse, the truth crushing me. “Lock, spark, flame, void. If Heaven's Angels felt nothing to kill newborns or harm them then what would they do to me: the guy who threatened their entire existence. This all felt so entirely fucked up. Heaven's angels were always portrayed as the protectors, the righteous one's from them all but if you dived deeper into them, you realize that they were not much different from Lucifer's following. They did things to please the Creator whereas Lucifer's following did things to please themselves; both used any means possible to get what they wanted in the end. Blood being spilled wasn't an issue to them since they lacked the decent conscious to overthink something.

His eyes darkened before turning back to the usual amber color. Was I in some sort of alternate universe? What was happening here? That’s it, I died. I died and this is my hell. As if the chair had bitten her, she shot to her feet and pointed at me. “Rachel! You… You’re not dead…” I nodded. “I did die once, but I came back from hell. There was only a look of finality. "Your hell," Clara said softly, though it was unclear whether she was speaking to Rebecca or to Ethan, "Begins now." After that, Clara picked up the urn and walked away into the heavy shadows of the crematorium. Rebecca lay alone on the cold ground, knife still in her chest, blood slowly soaking into the earth beneath her. A faint ambulance siren sounded far away, but she could no longer hear it clearly. Her eyes stayed open as she stared into the gray sky.
