“So,” Chantel began, “There was this guy. I met him not long after I moved to New York. Tall, sweet, charming — all the fake qualities. I thought I had found someone that actually understood me. At the time, one of my closest friends — let’s call her Tola — had just lost her job and was basically struggling.”
She adjusted her seat, voice dipping with seriousness. “Out of pity, I decided to help her. Rented her an apartment, helped her sort out some bills… even connected her to my circle so she could get something doing.”
