Julian’s attention catches there before he can stop it, right at the exposed line of Adrian’s neck.
It is a stupid detail to notice.
It feels worse because Adrian notices him noticing.
Their eyes meet across the conference room, and for one second, the morning becomes too quiet. Julian feels it in his chest first, a small tightening that has nothing to do with fear. Adrian’s face gives almost nothing away, but his gaze sharpens, and the air between them changes as if both men have stepped closer without moving.
Then Martin Hale stands up from the table and ruins it.
“Mr. Hart,” Martin says with a prepared smile. “Good morning.”
