The creature’s strength was unmatched, but we were determined.
Finally, Althea unleashed a spell that froze the creature in place, if only for a moment. “Now, Jake!” she shouted.
I didn’t hesitate. With all my strength, I drove my sword into the creature’s chest. It let out a final, bloodcurdling roar before collapsing into a heap of ash.
The forest fell silent again, the oppressive weight lifting slightly.
“Is it over?” Fatima asked, her voice shaky.
“For now,” I said, though I knew better than to believe it was truly over.
