The café was quiet, too bright, and smelled like burnt coffee. Charlie chose a table in the corner, far from prying ears, and slid into the seat like she owned the place.
I sat across from her, spine rigid.
“So,” she said, stirring her latte with deliberate slowness. “How’s life as a vampire treating you?”
I didn’t flinch. “I’m not a vampire.”
She smirked. “That’s not what Kelvin told me.”
