We followed him through a set of double doors and into a large room with a round table, where nine people were already seated. “Ah, Alpha Xavier. Ms. Blackwood. How nice of you to finally join us,” said Council Member Edward. “I shall introduce the rest: Ashlyn, Madison, Blaze, Joseph, and Michael. We are the Official Council of the United States—chosen by the Moon Goddess herself,” Edward announced proudly. Xavier and I bowed respectfully and took our seats. I immediately felt Alpha Roman’s piercing gaze. He was glaring at me while Luna Abigail tried to distract him. Council Member Ashlyn cleared her throat.

MIYAS POV… I roll my shoulders back and slowly lift my head, settling my sight on Zion. He looks livid as he faces Kol and the council. The rage has taken over him, and I don’t have to see his eyes to confirm it as I can sense it engulfing him. “The council wishes to banish Zion, Jaja, Nova, and Tyber from Mahji.” Sylvan sneers with great disdain.

“Yeah. I wanted to talk to you about it. I think someone from the council here is involved.” “You would be right. At least two council members from each region are involved, except for central. Listen, we have a roster. I have a tech genius who just joined Winter Moon. He is hacking everyone from the councils and to Alphas for now. Over forty alphas are involved with this shit, Jett.”

All six members of the council are heroes of our world, werewolves who have lived their lives for the benefit of others. “THE KING IS DEAD!” the council is heard shouting in unison and we all look shocked at them. That means one thing: “LONG LIVE THE KING!” What?

I understand the council wants the information about Pilso's death to be fresh, but I am ready to be alone. Nole falls silent after he reads my energy and we all refocus on the door. After a few minutes, a female Puelo finally opens it. "Council member Hik has asked for the three of you," she says and we wordlessly follow her through the door. Hik's role in the council is simple. He handles retirement and champion selection for the Harvest. Meeting with him is technically a good thing, but my brain still can't relax. The battle is still too fresh and my thoughts are miles away.

I ask. “The Custos Regni are the most powerful of all supernatuals. They can do whatever they want. Thankfully, they are pure of heart and only become violent when necessary.” Those words are still ringing in my ears as I watch the Guardians, the current sitting Council members standing in a semi-circle with the previous Council members standing behind them. The front circle consists of Queen Leana, Queen Lily, and Beta Riley. The back circle consists of Luna Angel, Luna Grace, and Luna Cara. Even as an Alpha, I can feel the power radiating off of them.

He was on the phone with the bloody council, and, unfortunately, they were hounding him to speak to Elle. He could barely tell Elle about their reality, never mind subject her to the council. The council is a group of bloodthirsty wolves who are hundreds of years old and think they know better than anyone else. With that age came a certain skepticism and an ability to manipulate others. The first stole their happiness. The second filled them with sadistic pleasure.

Blackriver sent Dren, who’d lost a brother to Lucian’s cells and still had the scars to prove it. Ashen Peak sent an old omega named Silas who’d kept their records for 40 years and could recite every treaty by heart. Even the rogues sent someone. A girl, maybe 17, with a scar across her throat and no pack name. She didn’t sit. She leaned against a pillar like she was ready to run. They all looked at Helena. Then at me. Standing two steps behind her right shoulder. “The Council is dissolved,” Helena said again, like she needed to hear it herself. “This is the First Council of the Packs. No bloodlines. No secrets. No veto.”

The three Council members who wanted absolute death are gone, absorbed by Original Death. The four who wanted evolution are unmade. There is no Death Council anymore, just me and Anna and the broken system we created. My sons are surrounding Alistair’s body crying and I can’t comfort them because I’m destroyed myself. The Totality is damaged from Original Death’s partial absorption, flickering between states. And the Shepherds are watching all of this with satisfaction.
