Spencer reaches the front door, giving one last look back to the truck before his body disappears into the house. The dome light in the truck turns off, bathing me in darkness. I make it another four and a half seconds before reaching over and locking the truck doors. There's a flicker and then light shines out a large front window of the house, evidence Spencer flipped a switch and the home still has electricity. There are no gunshots or screams of horror, and I release a breath. The wind continues to batter at the trees in the dark, the one lone branch scraping and clawing off the back of the truck.
