Chapter 30: Fighting Two Vampires The house Phoebe and Jax are living in is complete without electricity, so they have to use flashlights. When dusk fell, the sky began to darken, they turned off the batteries and waited in the dark for the hunting Vampires to come here.

With one final shriek, the vampire wriggled before bursting into nothing but ashes. Adrenaline pumping through her body after the kill, she took off in the direction that she was headed in when the vampire had appeared. A long night of hunting had finally come to an end and she could now return home. The city tonight was frozen. Thousands laid up in their homes to hide away from winter's harsh bite, giving her the perfect opportunity to strike when needed. Of course, at this hour there were still some people around but most were drunks that were intoxicated to the point where hallucinations were possible. There was no need to be discreet for now.

Grinning triumphantly, Anderson laughed heartily. "I am the king of this world, hahaha!" said Anderson, stretching both hands into the air. "You will all bow at my feet! O humans, hahaha!" Vincent Cox, Zachary Smith, and Michael Emerson are preparing to face the vampires. They couldn't let the vampires into their homes. There are around ten houses, including Grace's. Middle-aged people and young families make up the average. They are innocent humans and choose to live on the edge of town, like Vincent and Zach.

Autumn arrived at the house just as the first hints of dawn began to touch the sky. She walked right up to the front door, her bare feet making no sound on the stone path leading up to the entrance. Even from outside, she could feel Damon's presence. It hit her like a physical force, loud and terrifying, pressing against her chest and making it hard to draw a full breath. His power rolled out from inside the house in waves, dark and violent, the kind of energy that promised death to anyone foolish enough to get too close.

Trevor finishes lighting the candles and Blair rushes toward me, grabbing me by the arm and pulling me closer as they all begin to sing. By the time they stop singing, the clock strikes the minute I was born, and I take a deep breath ready to blow out all 18 candles. But the front door crashes open, loud enough to make all of us jump, wind rushes into the room extinguishing my lit candles. For tonight, in this moment, all was as it should be. Lebotha's heart leapt into her throat as the realization hit her - Hailey was not home for curfew. "Hailey! Hailey!" Damon called again, striding through the cabin as Lebotha clutched baby Lucas close. Lisa groggily awoke, confused by all the commotion. "What's happening?" she asked rubbing her eyes. "Your sister Hailey, she has not come home yet." Damon's face was taut with worry. Hailey at 18 was on the cusp of her first full transformations. Being out alone on blue moon night was extremely dangerous, even for an experienced werewolf.

Nizhoni came home a quarter of an hour before midnight. The lights were turned low and the house was quiet. Sebastian left the entrance light on and enough light everywhere else for her to be able to see without having to run her hands along the walls to guide her. She walked into the living room and smiled as Sebastian looked up from a novel he was currently engrossed in. Jaxsen still took up residence in his lap, his head nestled in the hollow of Sebastian’s shoulder and clavicle, similar to the position he’d fallen asleep in a couple hours previous.

She felt relaxed already- in fact, she almost felt at home. At home? She thought again how familiar everything seemed, then sighed. After taking a shower and selecting something from the refrigerator to eat, she switched on her laptop and settled back to watch The Vampire Diaries season 3. She was exhausted already and dozed off at episode four. After such a hectic day, she expected to sleep like a log until morning, but something woke her just before midnight. She lay there in the darkness wondering what had disturbed her. The night was unexpectedly humid and uncomfortable, not what she'd expected of England. Maybe she should have closed the window before getting in bed.

Sat by the fireplace and waited to warm up. Conrad didn't come home. I sent one message. No reply. At two in the morning, the fever hit. I lay in bed staring at the ceiling, thinking: if he knew I was sick right now, would he come back? I didn't call him. I wasn't sure of the answer anymore. — He walked in just before dawn.
