That was just who we were—she-wolves to the core. The day had felt long, like time was moving in slow motion. When I finally got home, the house was empty. Quiet. For once, I didn’t mind. I decided to take full advantage—ran a hot bath, soaked until my fingers pruned, then curled up in bed with the TV on. I must’ve fallen asleep halfway through the movie. When I woke up, it felt like I’d been out for hours. Still no one home. Just soft light filtering through the windows and that deep, still calm you only get when you're alone.

I watched Mom and Dad fuss over my little brother, soothing him as they took him out the door. The door closed softly behind them. It was not loud, but it landed in my chest like a stone. I thought I would cry. I did not. My eyes stayed dry, almost painfully dry. I stood in the living room for a very long time before going back to my room and dragging the little suitcase out from under my bed. Five years ago, I had dragged that same suitcase into this home. I had been so small then that I could barely remember the children's home. What I remembered was Mom crouching in front of me, her eyes bright and kind, asking, "Do you want to come home with me?"

When you stay alone for as long as I did, what better way is there to spend part of your time so you won't feel alone? I clear my throat. "What is the book about?" I say, pointing to his hands. "It's about a man who has to decide between saving his wife or his newborn son in a fire outbreak." I wince. That sounds harsh. Only if I understood French. I ran my hands over the front cover, mulling over what I was about to say next. "Can I ask you a question?" "Isn't that what you've been doing since we got to France?" "I meant something personal this time."

My mind needs to just clear out for a moment so I can just relax. A few minutes later Ashlynn comes back with a large bowl of popcorn and two bottles of water. She smiles at me before she gets herself settled in my bed, setting the large bowl on her lap. She grabs the remote and presses play on the movie, which was Pride and Prejudice. I read the book back in high school but I don't remember it at all. "Do you like this movie?" I ask her. "I love the book, it's one of my favorites. I have never seen the movie though," she tells me. "I didn't even know there was a movie until earlier today actually."

"What do you think about the movie" Flashback "I'll never run out. So its After you picked" I said dropping the blankets "Yup. The name sounds interesting" "Yeah because the book is" "After has a book" "More like the book has a movie" "How" "Its a book on Wattpad and that book is a bomb" "Really" "One of my absolute best" I said and smiled. End of flashback "Its a really good one. One of my absolute best even" I said summing up every other thing I would have said.

We went to the car afterwards and headed back home. Due to excitement, I even started reading the book about Mario, yeah, that was the name of the man in the book. The book was more of sharing the life story of Mario and how did he overcome his condition. Each page was full of learning and new insight, and because I love what I was reading I didn’t even realize that we already got home until George mentioned that it was time to go inside. When I went upstairs to continue reading, my father was waiting in the living room.

The title said 'The Fault in Our Stars'. "I think you'd like this one. But don't get your hopes up..." Caleb smiled. I held the book to my chest and thanked him. Getting my hands on a new book is something close to magical for me. I finally bid Caleb goodbye, and the next thing I know...the shotgun seat of the truck was right in front of me. Dom went out and held the door open. I mindlessly entered the vehicle while holding the book, reading its sypnosis. I could feel Dom's cold stare linger at what I'm holding before he went back to the driver's seat.

“Tomorrow morning, you're staying all night by the way since this isn't a booty call, before I cook you breakfast, I will give you a full tour of the entire estate before we drive to your old house and level it to the ground. Now, however, the only room I want to show you is the one with my giant bed in it. She clung to his neck as he carried her bridal style up the winding staircase. “A big bed?” “Huge. When I was a kid, I watched. “Home alone” the second day in New York and Kelvin had the biggest bed I've ever seen. In the last part of the movie, all the kids were sleeping on the floor and the bedwether kid, he slept on the giant bed alone and I vowed someday I'll be that kid. “He paused.”
