I let go of her jaw. The woman doesn't move. It’s like she is frozen, eyes wide, lips parted, and the expression on her face is the kind of shock that comes right before a person either faints or screams. I put my hand on the small of her back, lightly, a gesture that reads as tender to the cameras and functions as a warning. Don't. She doesn't. Good instincts. Or maybe just good fear of response. Either way, useful. I smiled for the cameras, then spoke just three words that would cause chaos before I shut the door.

Gradually and gradually, until the moment came where the man’s movements became unmistakable, undeniable. And the moment he disappeared from the screen another face came into view. I love it.” He turned the screen to her. She barely recognized her contorted and blood-stained face. Her creased forehead drew up her brows to show the whites of her eyes in full, panicked flare. Her grimace drew awful lines in the blood trailing her chin. She looked maniacal, frantic, possessed.

“Uncle, I don’t know what happened.” He opens his mouth to say something, then he closes it again. He doesn’t come any closer to me. Instead, his expression of shock gives way to a look of outrage and disgust when he focuses on my face. That look sends a pang of pain right through my chest, so intense that I have to look away. Uncle Osman marches away, jogging to keep up with the nurses. I stand there, staring into space until I turn my head and see myself in the mirror.
