We get out of the car and start walking on the sidewalk, "I do like her, but I don't want her to know." "Okay," I roll my eyes. "Are you going to get a tattoo with us, General?" Hunter asks, opening the door to 'Zander's Greatness'. My father shakes his head. "Nah. I'll wait for you guys at that bar,” he points, “While you get your little drawings done." Zander is a bald man covered in ink who has done ten of my tattoos. My favorite ones, the ones that mean the most to me. This time, Hunter and I get the date of our departure tattooed just below the tattoo we got last year, which is the same, just a date. Small and simple.

Both of them looked at me like I was insane. "First, he can tattoo? Second, you let him put his family crest on you? Damn girl." Becky laughed. I rolled my eyes. "Obviously. And well, it seemed fair. He let me tattoo him. The same spot, but his is a lotus flower sitting on a crescent moon with the five moon phases under it." I shrugged. "Wow. So you two are next level in this relationship. It's that serious." Becky whistled.

I leaned closer, mouthing the words written beneath it.

“Would that be such a bad thing?” I blow out a breath. “I think… maybe I need to learn how to accept that without feeling like it’s charity. I’ve been on my own for a long time, so my mindset isn’t going to change overnight.” I squeeze his hand, offering him a smile. “But like… baby steps. Not a whole ass car.” “All done!” Benji calls, switching off the tattoo gun and wiping the inside of Chase’s forearm off with a cloth. Oh shit. The tattoo!
