I watched them go from the front window, the house pulling me firmly back when I tried to follow. The Reynolds arrived eager and unaware. They had a four year old daughter named Harper who immediately claimed the upstairs room with the best lake view. I observed their first days with renewed focus. When I was looking at the bodies already covered with white sheets, a wave of emotions surged through me. Their closest family treated their lives like a joke, sending them off without giving them any chance to survive. I saw a wrist sticking out from under one of the sheets, with festering blisters that made me shudder. Why would such dangerous wasps be found in a tourist area? I realized this wasn't a simple accident. Someone must have done it on purpose. I called the police and asked them to investigate.

I was thankful for the buzz that came on as it helped distract me from how awkward I felt in Luke’s presence. The late-August full moon was glowing above the lake, making the water sparkle.
