He shook her from his mind and pushed open the doors to the study. The rug-lined room was bigger than B’s above-garage apartment. Floor to ceiling bookshelves dampened any noise B might made in his whiskey search. There didn’t seem to be a single inch of space on any one of the shelves. Books of all colors, textures, and sizes were packed together. In front of the book spines sat hundreds of little treasures–seashells, pocket watches, glass figurines, and carvings of creatures. He commanded. The creaking against the wall grew stronger, at the same time it felt as if the veins across the book was glowing, pulsing and alive. The sound grew increasingly louder, it was coming from behind the shelf. Then everything suddenly went eerily quiet. My pulse slowed, my hand still wrapped around khyrix's who possessed the terrifying calm of someone who knew they were the apex predator. Crack. It's hard to focus without her, but I lead Axar into the small library with me as I begin to search. Having been alive for so long I've acquired many books and ancient pieces of literature. Some are in immaculate shape, others are torn segments and several pages, barely tethered together by bits of spine. Many of these are family heirlooms as well, handwritten and handed down to future generations for guidance. I felt like I was being watched as I walked among the stacks. The library exuded an aura of ancient wisdom, its towering wooden shelves adorned with weathered tomes and curious artifacts. A skull of some long-forgotten creature rested on one shelf, its empty eye sockets staring into the abyss, while feathers danced in the air, pinned to the wall like relics of forgotten dreams.
