Hesitantly, Rose lifted her hand and shifted the curtain aside. She peeked into the dim interior—and a pair of glowing red eyes instantly snapped up, locking directly onto hers. The malice in that gaze made her soul tremble with absolute terror. A violent shudder wracked her body, and the vision shattered as her eyes snapped open back in the real world. Her frozen fingers lost their grip, and the locket slipped from her open palm, clattering limply to the forest floor.

“We—” “Guess she takes after her mother.” Jaz says, before dragging me into the haunted house. As we step in, it's like we're transported into another world. There are trees, lots of them, and blood is smeared on dozens of them. A loud shriek pierces the air, and Gwen's arms are suddenly around my leg. Jaz humps and stalks forward. A bony figure jumps from one tree, its face dripping with blood, bones peeping from its own skin. It looks like a real life damn horror movie. Gwen screams out loud as the figure grabs her arm.

I was in the wrong game? This was a horror game, not an otome romance? In just a few seconds, every strange detail suddenly made sense.

After a moment, Jorvan took out an infernal bill from his pocket. However, the money was covered in sticky blood. When it touched my skin, I went and got a rag to wipe it off. In the next second, I froze in place and dared not move. Oh no. In such horror games, only players could see blood. They could also see the actual undead nature of the ghouls. The rest of the class stood frozen with grim expressions. The scene before us was a living hell. The classmates who'd been standing here yesterday, smiling and reassuring us, now lay scattered on the ground with torn limbs and blood everywhere. Some had even been ripped into pieces. Isolde Adler, the prettiest girl in class, had her face slashed and her body mutilated until she looked nothing more than a human stump. Someone finally couldn't handle the sight anymore and stumbled aside to throw up, while another broke into panicked, helpless sobs.

I launch myself into the air as they scramble to get organized, and I pounce on Ginger first. The last thing I see in her eyes is fear before I claw her face open, watching all the blood trickle out. It’s not red anymore, though. It’s black. And it smells rotten. It looks congealed. It seems that their bodies are animated and alive, but nothing inside them is really living.

He had to move. He snatched the cube. It was cold and vibrated unpleasantly in his hands. He dashed back toward the carriage, but as he drew near, the cube pulsed violently. A ghoul—a smoky, semi-corporeal horror with glowing red eyes and clawed hands—materialized from the shadows and slammed into him.

“Okay, it’s almost time. Let me introduce the rules of the game to you. Today’s game is divided into three series. It’s very simple.” Jack’s cold voice reached Brent’s mind accurately through the sensor. “The first series is a jigsaw puzzle game. On the screen in front of you, there will be a hundred round wireframes. There are a hundred little girls inside. You have to find out the difference. The time limit is three minutes. If you fail the challenge within the stipulated time, see the iron rod at the bottom of the screen? It will be inserted directly into your mouth.” As soon as he finished speaking, the live broadcast room was in a frenzy.

"Shit!" I clung to my Phantom Scooter's half-dead handlebars, flying over a hallway smeared with who-knows-what slime. Dashboard screamed in blood-red: 00:59. A literal death timer. "Overtime termination! Terminate my ass!" I roasted the system six ways to hell and floored it like I was chasing a warp zone. Third floor. Haunted High. The emergency lights flickered puke green over a ghost girl brushing her hair, back turned, dress in tatters.

I hurried over and tapped the man. "Hey, are you okay?" My hand touched his back, and I froze. A chill ran through me. I turned him over. Every muscle in me locked up. It was the guy from 603. He had multiple stab wounds to the chest, blood soaking his clothes and the mattress beneath him. I nearly collapsed to the floor. What the hell was going on? "Are you out of your fucking mind?" A furious shout rang out from downstairs. It was Jacob. Worried he might run into the killer somewhere in the building, I pushed open the stairwell door and hurried downstairs. In the darkness, my foot struck something, and I nearly tumbled down the stairs.
