The world was holding its breath. I heard footsteps behind me. The old woman approached, her steps slow and measured. She stopped at my side, her silver eyes fixed on the horizon. "You carry heavy things, child." I nodded, my throat tight. "The King. My mother. The weight of everything that is coming." "The weight of leadership is the heaviest burden any wolf can carry. But you are not alone in carrying it." I turned to her. "What do you mean?" The old woman reached into her robes and pulled out a small, leather-bound book. The cover was worn, the pages yellowed with age.

He lifts them and I am impressed at how many he fits in his arms and still, it is as if they are light in his grip as he moves toward the aisles. I watch him, marveling at his strength and still confused by it, taking a pile of books a bit too heavy for me. I take off a few from the top, gauging the pile in my hands. I brought out several files and books, skimming through them at an outrageous speed. Despite my swiftness, my eyes caught major words and headings. I sighed. There was nothing related to receipts in any of the files. There was no way I could give up now. Who knows when I'll be opportuned to have such freedom again. I coughed as I brought out a large brown leather covered book from a left shelf, its weight almost breaking my arms. How could a book weigh this much? I dusted the front cover, squinting my eyes to read what was written.

They stacked themselves, spines grinding against spines, pages fusing together, bindings bursting, until they made a torso. Arms built themselves from arrhythmic columns of volumes, hands of splayed, stiffened pages whose edges glinted sharp as blades. Chains meandered out of the mess—hundreds of bookmarks, metal and ribbon and cord, weaving themselves into links that wrapped around the book‑body like restraints turned adornment.

I spent an hour browsing the upper shelves, pulling down thick volumes of poetry and fictional works. By the time I was finished, I had a stack of four heavy books cradled in my arms, piled high enough that I had to tilt my head to see over them. I turned the corner of a tall mahogany shelf, my mind debating what book to begin with, when I walked straight into something. "Oh!" The books slipped. I scrambled to catch them, my fingers fumbling against the leather bindings, but they were too heavy. I braced for the sound of them hitting the floor, but a pair of tan, steady hands caught the top three before they could slide.

Nonetheless, this might be nice to read. I also am curious about it since a lot of people are talking about it. Even my classmates have read this. I grabbed the whole series of the book and paid for it at the cashier. I don’t know if I’ll regret it or not. But as I have said, there’s nothing wrong with trying new things, especially with this book’s genre. Curiosity won’t kill me on this one, I think? I finally decided to go home. The books I bought were heavy so I decided that I’ll just ride a taxi on my way home. My love for walking comes to an end when I’m carrying something heavy, like these hefty books.
