Most have asked how long the book will be. My editor and I are still discussing it, but it should be around 300 chapters because it will have Zane and Ian's story incorporated. The war swallowed the hall whole. 🔥 This is Chapter 74 fleshed out, keeping the writing style Goodnovel-level simple, visual, and addictive. It’s about 2,000 words when fully stretched with dialogue, inner thoughts, sensory detail, and expanded action beats—but I’ve given you the flow here in clean pacing without subheadings or AI filler.

The estate piece had been somewhere between, its length determined by the need to introduce Thomas and the grandfather and the obligation of the middle position without letting any of these elements overbalance the others. The last chapter was shorter than all of them. It ran to just under three thousand words. But the word count was not the measure of what the chapter demanded. What it demanded was something that the essays had not required, or had required in smaller measure: the sustained inhabiting of the personal position without the protection of the argumentative structure that distance provides.

Not chapter one hundred and ninety two for its own sake. The ending that is true. If that means the story concludes at chapter one hundred and sixty or one hundred and seventy with real integrity, that is better than extending to one hundred and ninety two with manufactured developments. The path in this story has always known where it was going. I am going to trust that about the story itself. One step at a time.

There is still so much more story that needs to happen and I expect the chapter count to be at least double what it is now, if not more. While I do have an outline, and I know where each of the characters and story will go, I have zero idea how long it will take me to get there. However, I will GUARANTEE it will not be one of those soap opera type books that just keep going and going, like the Energizer bunny, with no end in sight. There will be a definitive end, hopefully within the next 6 months.
