The noise faded behind them, replaced by distant laughter and the hum of the city.
Nora breathed deeply.
“Better?” Jaden asked.
“Yes,” she said. “Much.”
They started walking, side by side, their arms brushing occasionally. Each time it happened, her pulse jumped but she didn’t pull away.
The night stretched ahead of them, open and uncertain.
And Nora realized something that made her heart ache in the best way.
