Ding, ding, ding, we pull away to see Silvia standing on the stage. “Can the birthday girl please come to the stage.” Silvia says and I feel Octavia stiffen in my hold, she knows what’s coming. We walk up to the stage and our dads come through the side door attached to the stage, holing her cake; a Harry Potter themed three tier cake, the bottom layer is Green (Slytherin), dark chocolate devils’ cake, the middle layer is Blue (Ravenclaw), milk chocolate mud cake and the top layer is the Marauders map, with a silver wolf howling on the top, it’s a white chocolate and raspberry centre sponge cake. There is black frosted roses and other HP symbols positioned around it.

The weather held and luckily the last-minute forecast of rain didn’t reach us. I was currently standing on top of a ladder pulling down some of the thousands of fairy lights and the remaining pack banners. The banners were my new project, I had newly created them for this year’s celebration. They were designed with the symbol of a crown with a wolf howling into the red blood moon, the Red Stone Pack’s symbol. “I’m fine Candice. You could help by packing some of that food up? Maybe the night watch would like some food this morning as they missed out last night?” I suggest.

The pussy hadn’t done it and I was tired of waiting. I whistled for the first time while putting on my school uniform. It could be worse. Rochester’s colors were black and white, à la Hogwarts. The girls could wear black skirts and jumpers with white logoed blouses. The boys had black pants with ties and collared shirts.

“Don’t start blushing over him. Not now.” Zipping my bag shut, I slung it over my shoulder and left the library. The halls were mostly empty now, just the sound of my own footsteps echoing as I walked. Outside the window, I noticed new decorations had gone up. Long black and silver banners were draped across the walls, huge posters of wolves and footballs side by side, and the Ravencrest crest gleaming in gold and a huge banner that says ‘WELCOME MOON VEIL PACK’. The school was ready for the Moonveil arrival tomorrow.

Then bloomed. Deeper in the Refuge.....Torren entered a private chamber lit by crystal light. On the wall hung the banner of the Saphiren Clan, a golden phoenix mid-flight, haloed by curling flame and rain. A soft knock. It was Senna again, holding a relic wrapped in cloth.

Snow melted beneath my boots as I crossed the academy courtyard, hiding my head in the hoodie of my sweatshirt hoping that no one would notice me. No one moved out of my way as I ducked and weaved in between the crowd of happy, screaming academy elites. They never did. No one ever paid me any mind or attention unless I was the butt end of some joke. The academy banner hangs above the courtyard, snapping violently in the wind, black and silver stitched with the wolf crest of the Axton Pack staring me dead in the face. I stare back at the wolf hating everything it stands for. Every student wears this emblem somewhere on their uniform jackets.

"Not yet. She's still too little." A boy with sandy hair, the same boy who had asked if Aria glowed during the battle, pushed forward with a crumpled piece of parchment in his hands. "We made her a new banner, Luna! See? It says 'Little Wolf'. I did the letters myself." Aria took the banner and felt her throat tighten. The letters were crooked and earnest,it was a drawings of white wolves and crescent moons. "It's beautiful. She'll treasure it." "Can we hold her?" another pup asked.

For a heartbeat, she wondered if she’d imagined it, but Perse was already tugging her forward, grinning as if she owned the place. Inside, the dining hall was alive. Long tables of dark oak stretched under floating candelabras that burned with blue-white flame. Banners hung from the rafters—each one marked with a different crest: a thunderbolt, a trident, a laurel crown, a flame, a serpent. So many symbols and banners hung high above tables full of chattering initiates. The colors shimmered as if the fabric itself breathed. “Welcome to the Feast of the Houses,” Perse announced, spreading her arms. “Try not to stare too hard. They can smell nerves,” she joked.

“Attendance is taken for officers and senior staff. It reinforces hierarchy and visibility.” I glanced at her. “So this isn’t lunch. It’s strategy.” The assistant’s lips twitched faintly. “Yes, Luna.” I still wasn’t used to that. We passed through the central hall, where banners of Blackridge hung between stone pillars - deep charcoal and silver stitching, the wolf sigil sharp and clean. The scent of food drifted through the corridor ahead: roasted meat, herbs, warm bread, something rich and savory that made her stomach growl despite the knot sitting in it.
