I heard the familiar crackle of the radio come to life. "Alright everyone look alive. We have a code 561, I need all available personnel to meet at the end of the hiking trail immediately." Jace and I looked at each other and jumped into the truck. We started it up and I felt Koda jump in the bed of the truck. A code 561 was always the one I hated the most, a missing child.

She had been waiting to read the book, but she was interrupted by unfortunate events the previous night. Flipping through the first page, she continued to the prologue where the story began. Arlene was too engrossed with the book that she didn’t notice that she had passed a lot of time. The book contained 30 chapters and she had read fifteen chapters at a go. She stopped reading when she heard her stomach rumble, so she closed the book and checked the time on her phone, it was 4 pm already. She turned on her data to check her i*******m feed and the writer’s forum she was on for updates.

“Holy shite!” I spent the next hour going through page by page. However, it seemed that the book always managed to place a new page at the back as soon as I finished reading one page because I’d never gotten through the book despite the five hours of sleep that I’d foregone. Right before the breaks of dawn, I reached an interesting page filled with names.

Mace said and even pointed at Renjo who just laughed at her. We stopped for a moment to talk about where we were going to eat because the two of them couldn't agree on where we should go. Why is it that when you are outside, it is hard to decide where and what to eat? Tsk. And because we stopped and were facing each other, we didn’t notice the woman approaching us. She didn’t seem to notice us either because she seemed to be in a hurry. It's too late for me to avoid her colliding with me and because luck is really not on my side, the coffee she's holding spills on my clothes.

Bianca's eyes gleamed with a sudden spark of hope. She sprang to her feet, clutching Timothy's arm as she stuttered, "I-I'll make it happen! Can you please give me Professor Hart's contact info, Dr. Brown?" Timothy sighed again as he handed Bianca a piece of paper. "Here's Professor Hart's home address. I don't have his contact info at the moment, so this is the extent of my assistance." Bianca held the piece of paper against her chest. I furiously scrubbed the spot where he'd touched me with the back of my hand. But no matter how hard I rubbed, the feeling of being tainted wouldn't go away. I had overestimated myself for thinking that I could walk away quietly. My hands moved faster as I packed everything up. Everything was done in just an hour's time. The place barely looked any different when I looked around. I didn't realize how easy it was to erase someone's existence.

I saw that now, unfolding it fully for the first time, the way the single authenticated line I'd already memorized sat at the top of a full page, not a fragment of a letter but the opening of one, and beneath it three paragraphs I had never let myself read. His handwriting was even. Unhurried in a way that had nothing to do with the four relays it had traveled through to reach me, the kind of unhurried that came from a man who had never once in his life needed to write faster than his own certainty. Both of them were waiting at the bus stop for a quarter hour, but no bus on that route came at all. Ryan stomped his feet, jumping around anxiously when a ray of hope shone as a bus came towards them, but disappointment hit him hard to see it was not the bus for their destination. Annoyed at the delay, he yelled, “We’re definitely going to be late, Darius. What will I do if I can’t be in the top ten book buyer?” he shook his friend by his both shoulder, who sat quietly under the bus stop shade, waiting patiently for the bus.
