Maxine sighed, sweeping her gaze around, ending everything on the island opposite them. "Can we get there?" Maxine's gaze looked at the island's only mound that was separated from the True-blue ocean. "There's nothing there, Max." Maxine turned her head, looking at Maxim for a moment, before looking back at the island. Maxine took a deep breath, then replied to Maxim's words. "My father once said there was a city, where werewolf, vampires, witches and whatever it was, survived by hiding from The Hunters." Maxine turned her head again, staring at Maxim flatly.

Horizon Homes was officially registered five weeks later. The name had come from a late evening conversation with Robin, both of us at the kitchen table with the proposal documents spread between us and cold coffee going undrunk at either end, and Robin had said something about how the point was to build toward something you could not yet fully see, the way a horizon functioned, always present and always just ahead, moving as you moved but never disappearing. And Haera’s, who is a lot smaller than his, is still big enough compared to those we are using at Audravaria. Aside from that, these cars look so odd. I already learned about these on the book I was reading about Earth—I’ve quite read a lot about this world, after all—but it’s still strange to see their actual look.
