“You don’t see me that way. I get it.” The words hit harder than I expected. “I never thought about it,” I admitted. “Not like that.” He smiled faintly, sad and sharp. “Then let’s keep it that way. We can’t afford distractions.”

IRENE I couldn’t help but think of what an idiot I was, I mean I had just made up my mind not to think about him again this was barely 6 hours ago but that was all I could think of for the past 6 hours at work and even now that I was in the cab on my way back home. If I didn’t know better I would have felt this was a spell.

JOAN’S POV What was I even thinking? I was so naive and pathetic for having even the slightest thought that he would change. That we would perhaps work out some days. I should have known. I should have never gave in to that hug, I should have pushed him away and left the room before he had the chance to send me out like some unwanted pieces of trash.

It had not been pity. I did not know what it had been. I did not think about it on the way out of the library. I thought about it the entire way home.

And I didn't know how much longer I could stay thinking I wasn't able to fix my mistake in time. I had to think. I had to make thing's work.

I shrugged, spread my arms and apologized. "I'm sorry," I said, "I didn't think it through at all before I blurted it out. Leanne was all over my ass for even thinking such a thing. I was only letting you know because...it did cross my mind. I did say it out loud. That isn't going to happen, though."

So I thought. It didn't mean a lot to me but the manner in which I panicked, I had every reason to know that things will never be the same again.
