My mother’s hand touched my shoulder, steady and firm. “You made the right choice.” I shook my head, tears spilling. “It didn’t feel right. It felt like dying.” That night, as I lay restless in bed, the pulse inside me returned. Stronger. Wilder. Then, a kick. I gasped, my hands flying to my stomach. And with it, the glow returned, brighter than before, spilling silver across my skin like spilled starlight. My mother gasped softly. “The Moon has already claimed him.”

I scream in pain hoping someone hears me before I lose consciousness but it’s too late darkness consumes me. I waited for the scenes to start on replay, but they don’t. Instead, I am back at my special place sitting on the boulder overlooking the pond. The place where it all began when I see the Moon Goddess appear to me once again and I wonder what this visit will bring.

As I greeted the last of the pack members, I spotted a vacant seat at the edge of the hall and made my way towards it. I sat down, taking a moment to collect my thoughts and observe the celebration.
