I closed my eyes, breathing slow, remembering the heat—not the fear, not the chaos—but the moment before. The pull. The way it felt like the fire had been waiting.

Flames burst from my palms, too fast, too bright. They licked up the air like they were hungry, snapping and crackling, heat rushing up my arms. I yelped and dropped them, heart hammering.
