⸻ Chapter Ten The Eighteenth Moon The first rays of dawn broke over Blackridge Pack. It was Ivy’s birthday. For a long moment, she simply lay in bed, staring at the ceiling. Eighteen. The number didn’t feel real. She had imagined this day for as long as she could remember. Some nights she had dreamed of waking to hear her wolf’s voice. Other nights she had feared waking to nothing at all. Now the day had finally arrived… And the silence inside her was deafening.

“Evelyn, wait for me. Wait for me to bring you home. When we get back, we’ll get married right away.” ... The next day at noon, Evelyn finally woke up. After glancing at the time, she instantly became fully alert and quickly washed up, changed clothes, and headed downstairs. As soon as she reached the staircase, she saw Julian sitting in the living room, chatting with her father. When he saw her coming down, her father waved at her with a teasing tone. “Finally awake? Julian’s been waiting here all morning. I was about to have your mom go upstairs to wake you, but he said you must’ve been exhausted after such a long train ride yesterday and should rest a little longer.”
