The last thing I saw before everything went black was the moon—bright, cold, indifferent—watching me from above the cliff I just fallen from. Then nothing. Just darkness. And silence.

Chapter 8 POV: Alpha Wade The pack gathered in the clearing, tension thick in the air. It was a full moon, and our instincts were heightened. Everyone could sense that something was about to happen, but none of us could have predicted what was to come. As we stood together, a sudden gust of wind swept through the clearing, causing the leaves to rustle and the trees to sway. The sky grew dark as if a storm were about to unleash its fury upon us. And then, out of the shadows, emerged a figure.

I felt his knees hit stone in his packhouse, felt his wolf howl in agony as the moon turned her face away from him. I smiled, blood on my teeth, and let the darkness take me again. This time, it was clean.

He hung up the phone and picked me up. I still couldn't catch my breath. It felt like something was stuck in my throat. My chest was heavy like a boulder had just been placed on it. Charles laid me down on the bed. He felt so far away, even though his arms were around me still. My vision began to tunnel. Everything went dark then. When I opened my eyes again I was in a clearing. There was a large pond surrounded by thick trees. A full moon reflected in the water. A large white wolf with specks of grey drank from the pond. It's bright blue eyes mine. Heli.

I felt warmth rise to my cheeks under his intense stare. “You look beautiful,” he finally reaches out, cups my cheek, and presses a soft kiss there. And I melt into his touch, my heart racing. The car begins to move, and Adrian wraps his large arm around me, pulling me closer. I sigh contentedly, resting my head against his broad shoulder. The multitude of questions and the lack of answers weighed on me as I got up, taking in my surroundings. As I got closer to the clearing, the air turned colder, and the trees seemed to lean in, whispering secrets in the wind. I pushed through the last of the trees, my heart pounding. I stood at a clearing, gazing up at the full moon. Its silvery light illuminated the landscape, casting an otherworldly glow.
