"Gabriella gets sick again, your mother's blood pressure spikes again, and the wedding gets postponed again?"
"It won't happen again."
"Tristan," I said, "you've made that promise many times."
He fell silent.
I pushed the lamp base back toward him. "Once something's been broken, it stays cracked."
The light in his eyes dimmed.
Wyatt and I stepped into the elevator.
