Heck, even my skin was pale. I gripped the soil harder as I was lifted up from the ground. Soon I lost my grip and started to slip into the darkness. I shouted, “Titus, I will be back! I’ll find some way to return and prove my innocence! I promise!” I’m not sure he heard me or not before I fell into the portal into The Dark World. But it was a promise and I intended to keep it.

♠ Traè, Thames Empire. As/A: 3088. Motionless and lost in a shallow reverie, the young lad's head heaves high, as he stares into the darkening clouds and the bowing golden sun. The thoughts of nothingness lingers through his mind. His fist clenches in anger, and his shoulders shudder in fear. The world he knew made sense, but his present reality was a lamp dwelling within a bushel: hidden, obscure and dangerous.

“Last chance to turn around.” I looked down into the dark. “No,” I said. “This is where everything starts.” And I took the first step into the dark.

Authors pov…… In the deepest, darkest recesses of the room, shadows lurk, ready to pounce. A faint glow from the lone candle illuminates only a fraction of the room, and the corners lie in complete darkness, their secrets hidden away from the naked eye. The floorboards creak beneath your feet, their voice the only sound in the stillness of the night. The air is thick with the smell of dust and decay, a reminder of the passage of time and the inevitable march of entropy.

Test again. Sipho whispered into the night, his voice barely more than shadow: “This is only the beginning. One day, one of you will falter, one will rise, and one… may take what should have been mine. Be ready, for the Darkness does not forgive hesitation. And the world… will remember your choices.”

Just answers. The club was a low-end spot called Velvet Sin—neon lights still flickering even in daylight, bass thumping faintly through the walls. Back entrance, like Dre said. We slipped in through the service door. The bouncer knew Dre’s face—nodded once, let us pass. Money talks. Then Dre turned around, giving me the signal I needed. Up the stairs to the VIP booths. Room 7. The door was cracked open, moans spilling out—loud and shameless. I pushed it wide.

“Invoco elemuntum aqua.” “Invoco elemuntum ignis.” Bright blue light fills the empty space in a large tree, and we both step through, emerging into the woods. The sounds of the night are loud around us, and I turn, making sure the door seals back up before daring to move away. I’m not chancing anything getting through. Not now, not ever again. “I’m going to go home, pour myself some wine, and read the rest of my book.” Kristy pulls the hood of her cloak up to keep the bugs away. “What are you going to do?”
