He had already heard that story a thousand times, so he looked at some of the drawings and illustrations, and then he moved on, turning each page with reverence and care. He certainly did not want to damage the book or its pages in any kind of way. It was far too old and much too sacred to abuse it.

The book in Jack’s hand felt like it weighed a hundred pounds as he rushed out to the trucks and the shifters who were begging him to hurry the hell up like they hadn’t eaten in a hundred years. He rushed out and jumped into the driver’s side, carefully placing the book on the console between himself and Chase. “Is that what I think it is?” Chase asked as Jack buckled his seatbelt and turned the truck on. “Yeah,” Jack said, turning the truck around to head back toward their village.

He knew that the dream was important, that it was trying to tell him something. But what? Over the next few days, Jack began to research magic. He read every book he could find, trying to piece together the puzzle that was his memory.
