Her warning trails over the door as she walks away. I sniff a few times before reaching down to the scattered pieces of my favourite novel. It had taken a month of work in the cafe to get my hands on this book. And now nothing is left of it. Gathering all the bits of paper, I put them in the trash can. Goodbye, Jane Austen.

Tiffany added, “Communication could’ve saved them both.” Mr. Robert scribbled notes. “Well done. You may sit.” Mr. Robert adjusted his glasses and gestured toward the front. “Next pair: Jake and Janna.” Jake shot Janna a playful wink, making her roll her eyes as they grabbed their project materials and walked to the front of the classroom. “Our project is about *Pride and Prejudice* by Jane Austen,” Janna began, her voice steady and confident. “It’s a classic novel that explores themes of love, social class, and personal growth.”

Lenora I was so restless, but couldn't shut my eyes. TV didn't help, so I reached out for one of the novels I had seen in the library, "Pride and Prejudice." I tried to immerse myself in the lives of Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy, but when I adjusted the angle of my desk lamp, the pages blurred, and with each turn, my interest waned. My mind wandered to CJ and Kia in the bedroom. It was ironic because she had more right to him than I did. She was his wife, and I was just the other woman.

I swear that this guy moves like a ghost. I sat down on the couch, I realised that there was a book on the table. I took it and it was one of my favourite author, it was Jane Austen and it was a first edition. I can only wonder how much it must have caused. Pride and Prejudice will always be my all time favourite literature. All in all I can say that being married doesn't seem to bad from where I was standing.

I was required to do well in school, stay pure, which meant don’t hang out with boys, get classes in decorum, dancing, party planning, budget management, and everything else that was really boring to a teenage girl. My parents would fill my schedule, making it impossible for me to maintain friendships, and the only free time I had I would spend reading books. My favorites were romance novels from the 19th century. It was the exact opposite of life inside the Mystic Shadow Pack. Women in Jane Austen’s novels were fully dressed, and even showing an ankle could be scandalous, but here men and women were naked half the time, and other times they were dressed in skimpy clothes. She reached for the pages, but he held them back. "It's good," he said, catching her off guard. "The characterization is strong. The dialogue feels authentic."

He ran a hand through his messy brown hair, eyeing me with interest. “Literature. I taught eighth grade English.” I leaned back against the cushions, smiling soberly to myself. “I planned on introducing my class to Jane Austen this fall, right now actually. We were going to read Sense and Sensibility first. It’s my favorite of her works. I was told Bronte was too extreme for eighth grade.” Tommaso gave me a nod, his forehead puckered together, a scholarly look on his face before he broke into laugher. “I have no idea what you just said.”

He started to help her unpack her books, glancing at the spines as they started to shelve them in a tiny bookshelf that wouldn’t hold even half of her collection. Jane Austen, Charlotte Brontë, Elizabeth Gaskell, John Keats, Shakespeare, Virginia Woolf, Charles Dickens—so many books, most of which had clearly been read over and over again. I yelled out, more of a rebuke of his lasting presence in my head, than of the figure behind the door. Not long after his departing footsteps fell on the floor with a heavy thud, I heard an ecstatic voice downstairs. Since the maids were all gone. I could only make a guess…that blonde Lucifer. I searched for a book in one of my luggages that held the books that formed my mini library, and dug out Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.
