“Tara, let me go!” I watched, eyes wide as Jane finally heard the screams. Her eyes widened. She started to turn her head, slowly, so slowly. The man’s eyes met mine over her shoulder. He smirked, a cruel, knowing twist of his lips. Then he moved. His arm swung. Claws, long and black, extended from his fingers. The movement was too fast to follow. All we heard was a wet, slicing sound. Jane’s head left her shoulders. For a second, her body stayed standing. Then it crumpled. Her head hit the stone floor with a sickening thud and rolled, once, twice, coming to a stop just a few feet from where we stood. Her eyes were still open, filled with horror.

She had tried to hold onto me, but I shoved her off and walked away from her. I jerked awake, shivering and afraid. I grabbed the bottle of water by my bedside and gulped thirstily. I could no longer return to sleep for fear of seeing Jane in my sleep again, but even being awake was scarier, because I kept feeling and thinking that every creepy sound was her. The entire night, I was haunted by the thought of Jane. I brushed and showered early in the morning; never have I been grateful that it was dawn already, because the night had been too scary and creepy for me.

Jane had drawn a rough sketch of a man she called her Aunt's friend. 'I hafe been hafing bad dreams. I am fery scared. It is dageros for Leila." David tried to process it. He wondered what Jane meant by the last statement. He looked to the next page. He read through. 'I know him. Why is he there? He flashed his scary teeth at me.' David was getting impatient. Who was Jane referring to? He flipped to the next page. 'Why did they look so moch alyke? I saw him today again. He looked frendly. Why did he look lyke that in my dream?'

Jane’s POV I felt like if I blinked for one second, I would miss it all. It was heat and cold altogether, embracing me. It had to be the waves and the cold it carried. I wrapped my hand around my frame, wishing I hadn’t listened to Laura and her choice of clothing. Wishing I hadn’t come here at all. Because, deep down, I knew all it took was one wrong move. He looked like the night, with dark hair falling across his face, dark eyes, and an imposingly tall frame. He overshadowed everyone easily, and I had to remind myself to breathe.

Ellie backed into the corner. Their sudden interest in her well-being alarmed Ellie. They were all tall, muscular females, and stronger than average women. She ended up trapped as the women backed her into the corner. One of them turned her head and pushed the button for the third floor. Ellie struggled to remember their names. The woman with red hair appeared as if she’d been altered with cat genes, from the shape of her eyes. She calmly turned her nearly black gaze on Ellie. “We smell you. Blood, fear and sex. It all has a scent.”
