I watched, eyes wide as Jane finally heard the screams. Her eyes widened. She started to turn her head, slowly, so slowly.
The man’s eyes met mine over her shoulder. He smirked, a cruel, knowing twist of his lips.
Then he moved.
His arm swung. Claws, long and black, extended from his fingers.
The movement was too fast to follow. All we heard was a wet, slicing sound.
Jane’s head left her shoulders.
For a second, her body stayed standing. Then it crumpled. Her head hit the stone floor with a sickening thud and rolled, once, twice, coming to a stop just a few feet from where we stood. Her eyes were still open, filled with horror.
