Esme POV “What are you reading?” Knox asked. He finally stopped sniffing around in the water and shifted back to his human form. I closed the romance novel and settled in the grass. “A book called Sold for Gold and Bells. It’s pretty good.” “So aside from sowing you like to read?” Knox asked. He hadn’t turned around to look at me but I assumed he was still coming down from his rage earlier. “I sow because I have to. I love reading especially out here. It’s calming isn’t it?”

Christmas was the reading of the book. This Christmas, Don's book was a novel—Norwegian, which was not a coincidence, a novel by the same writer whose essays were in the Norway reading programme. The novel was called The Dark Year, and it was about a man who spent a winter alone in a cabin in the far north of Norway, experiencing the full darkness for the first time. Don had been saving it since September, when he had finished the essays. He had placed it on the shelf above his desk, the designated holding place for the Christmas book, and had not opened it once.

They froze. Snow fell around them. Her hair brushed his jaw. His hands were on her waist. “You’re heavy,” he said. “You’re lying,” she shot back. For a heartbeat, everything else disappeared. Then— “DAAAADDYYYY!” Noelle slid into them like a missile. Sebastian groaned. Nyra burst out laughing. “This,” Nyra said between laughs, “is the best Christmas I’ve had in years.” Sebastian stood, brushing snow off. “You’re enjoying this far too much.”

Everything looked different to her, she felt different and at that moment, she knew something would not be the same again. "Congratulations, Mrs. Noah," someone said as they walked past her. Crystal simply nodded and smiled, then glanced over to her side. A gasp left her lips when she spotted one man that always got her attention. Guilt began to well up inside of her as she took in the tall, muscular blonde haired man who stood, towering in front of his grey haired grandfather. She found herself leaning on her palm as she stared at him, the way he smiled showed off his white teeth, and the way his suit hugged his muscled body made her feel warm in so many places.

I've never read any of them. It was only after he spoke that I realize he was behind me. I thought he was still sitting on the bed. I run my hands over the book, my eyes catching the titles, A fresh Start, For Mbatha and Rebecca, Agony in get voice, Felicia, The betrayal, for better for worse, Evbu my love... I pulled Evbu, my love out. It's actually my best pacesetter novel. I flipped through the pages and sniffed it.

He's also a bookworm, so he lets me borrow some of his classic novels. The previous book he gave me was Little Women. "Did you like it?" A boyish smirk was plastered on his face. "Yes!
