“They aren't moving,” Caleb said, stepping to the front of the group. He looked at home in the emerald twilight. He had shed his heavy traveler’s coat, wearing only a light linen tunic that showed the golden Vane-runes on his forearms. “The jungle is just breathing. If you fight the rhythm, it’ll swallow you whole.”
Caleb raised a hand as Ryker stepped forward to hack through a wall of thick, purple orchids. “Don’t. Those are 'Screamer-Vines.' You cut one, and the vibration will alert every predator within five miles that dinner is served.”
