June Hall’s POV “Good morning Winster county. Welcome to another episode of Winster county with Miss June Hall. Today, I have a very special guest in the studio: Kate Zainab Omar, the face of the heroes of justice maiden magazine. Kate how have you been?” Kate’s POV “I have been doing great, thank you for having me.” “You know since you came back, people have been speculating or even asking what your next move will be after the blockbuster speech during Sheriff Morgan Wilson’s memorial. What is your answer?” June Hall’s POV

It was unconventional sure, but our Luna was a strong woman and no one would dare question her. The future Alpha, Kai, was my age. Exactly my age, we shared a birthday. When we were young we would even share birthday parties due to the fact that my father had been the Beta of the pack. Our parents had been close so Kai and I had spent a lot of time together as kids.

His voice had been low, matter-of-fact, with that slight accent she couldn’t quite place. She grabbed her mat and bag, locked the car, and walked to the door. It opened before she could knock. Kai stood there in black joggers that sat low on his hips and a fitted gray tank that showed the lean, sculpted muscle of his shoulders and arms. He was barefoot, as always. At six-three, with smooth olive skin and sharp features framed by dark hair tied back in a loose knot, he looked more like a dancer than a yoga instructor. His flexibility was legendary in the local studios. People whispered he could hold handstands for twenty minutes and fold into positions most bodies simply refused.

"That's a federal offense, kid." The voice was a low, calm growl that seemed to come from the shadows between the pine trees. Liam froze, a half-burnt joint pinched between his fingers. The man who stepped into the circle of his dying campfire was built like the trees themselves—tall, lean, and hard. He wore the grey and green uniform of a park ranger. His name tag read "KAEL." His face was weathered and tanned, his eyes a dark, piercing green that held no warmth.

"You look stronger. The sickness has started?" I looked at him in shock, my hand unknowingly reaching over to cover my belly. “You knew? You knew that this would happen?” A thin smile spread on his face. It wasn't evil, just full of a wild certainty. "It was always a possibility. A very welcome one." “Who are you?” I managed to say, voicing out the words from my mouth loud, my voice shaking with anger and fear. “My name is Kael. I am the Alpha of the Shadow Moon Pack,” he said.

Ryan break this pictu- My eyes get terrifically wide as I see the playboy swimsuit calendar on his table. The girl in the bikini is Kelly Clawford, the model I slept with last week. Is he into girls? Is he straight? I ask myself. My wolf is swimming in jealousy, envying the calendar bikini girl. Ryan, tear this calendar and that dog's picture, break all the computers and tables. Dakota screams in my head. "I have an extra if you like it this much." I knew who said that because my heartbeats instantly fasten hearing his smug voice. I turn my head, glaring at my mate. Does this human even know who I am?

Not now. I have to concentrate on what is important. Today, I’m meeting with Kael. If it doesn’t go well, then I might be out of this competition. After last night, he seems fairly forgiving, although I can’t confirm that until today. It only makes me more nervous. Not only do I have an objective, but I’m relying on an intimidating Alpha who I know nothing about. Parker pushes away from the table, going to sit elsewhere. He should count himself lucky. His objective is nowhere near as difficult as mine.
