THE three disappeared from the hospital and emerged to the Altierra’s farm in Caramoan. Kharyn held the key—a medium-sized gold triangle with inscriptions written in the faerie alphabet. She chanted the spell and motioned the key in her hand. Suddenly, a blinding light appeared and formed a magic circle, and they got in.

Jade and I became fast friends. Her two years seemed more like ten when it came to knowledge about the werecat world and she was happy to help. She stayed by my side during all the interviews and for that I was grateful. When the Kalb family came in, we watched as they demonstrated Tahtib as an ancient and beautiful dance with ceremonial sticks. They wore traditional Egyptian garments in whites and blue. The fabric on their costumes moved with the body and created the illusion of water. In my head I sarcastically thought that this dance would be so beautiful that my enemies would fall into a stupor at my feet and decide to leave me alone.

“You're asking for the same fate as your sister!” Kalazar’s dark gaze locked onto Sylvia now, and he stepped forward, his lips curling into a sickening smile. “I was merciful with your sister,” he hissed, venom dripping from every word. “But for you… I will make no such promises.” With a chilling calmness, Kalazar raised his hand once more, dark tendrils of magic swirling around him as he began to chant the deadly incantation. My heart stopped, dread clawing at my chest as I realized what he was doing. He was casting a killing spell.

Geo cheekily smiled. “Silence Mr. Calazar’s group!” Mr. Pasyaw shouted. Geo at Tori tried to stop themselves from laughing. Good thing Mr. Pasyaw shut them up. He doesn’t want to tell his friends the story of his viagra journey. “What kind of fashion is that?” someone from their class said. “Yes, Miss?” Wilder’s eyes narrowed, fixed on the familiar girl following him. A small laugh escaped his lips. “Where did that girl come from?”

My breathing was erratic and all I could see was black nothingness. In a flash it was all gone: the pain, the fire, the knife . . .
