When the house fell silent
Kate visited as usual, smiling too widely, her eyes glinting unnaturally.
“You don’t need to worry,” Kate said sweetly, placing a hand on Mathapelo’s arm.
Immediately, Mathapelo felt the familiar heaviness, her legs resisting movement.
“I… I can’t breathe,” Mathapelo whispered.
“You’ll be fine. Drink this,” Kate insisted, handing over another potion of herbs. “I’ll take care of everything.”
After Kate left, Gail helped Mathapelo drink the concoction. “We’ll beat this, Matha. You’re not alone.”
