She gazed into the flickering flames, lost in thought, as memories of a day long past flooded her mind. [FLASHBACK:] The sun cast a golden hue over a breathtakingly beautiful garden, where vibrant flowers bloom and birds sing their evening songs. Clara, the vision of grace in a flowing gown, stands beneath a towering oak tree, her heart pounding with nervous anticipation for Eskaal. Eskaal, the dashing and noble alpha, approaches her with a warm smile. Clara took a deep breath, summoning the courage to speak her heart. The woman was nervous but determined. “Eskaal, there's something I must ask you.”

My knees hit the ground and I registered the impact distantly, the way you register things that are happening to a body you're losing contact with. Flashes. The day of the rejection — Kael's face, the specific quality of that silence, the ground dropping out from beneath what I'd thought was certain. My mother's kitchen. Her hands over mine, reading the burns. Wren laughing. The planning room. My own voice, steadier than I'd expected. I am not a tool. Ronan at the eastern fence, saying something true. Kael at the window of the healers' building, not knowing I could see him.

Kyhe returned to reality and Jhonia was turning away from her husband and his driver. "And why are you here?" Kuwain asked/ "Leave and miss which just happened? Are you crazy?" Kyhe asked.

Kyron himself wasn't sure if Keefe could hear him from that far away, but he still tried to scream as loud as he could. Kyron could see a smile of relief on Keefe's face. A little bit more! If Kyron could fly, he would have flown over to Keefe by now and pulled him up to fly faster. Suddenly, in a middle of nowhere, a white sharp object shot out and spun through the air at a very high speed. In less than a second, it pierced Keefe's back and into his chest. Red blood splattered in the air. Keefe's body fell limp for a moment. His eyes, beaming with hope, suddenly widened with indescribable pain, followed by emptiness.

Then another flashback entered her mind. The image of a man whose face was difficult to recognize due to dim lighting, leaning in and giving a fiery, passionate kiss. Then the flashback vanished. The kiss lasted for one minute; during that minute, Keyara felt her world freeze. She had never experienced someone's lips being so sweet, like candy. The ice cream in her hand slipped away, falling onto Grey's thigh, causing him to release the kiss. Keyara was shocked, then became flustered. Her face turned bright red. She hurriedly wiped the melting ice cream that had fallen onto Grey's pants, soiling his expensive trousers worth millions.

“Those years. Those masters. I know the scars you don’t show. And I’d never use them against you. I’d never make you beg the way they did.” Flashbacks threatened...the crack of whips, the clink of chains, laughter spilling over my cries. My body remembered what my mind wanted to forget. Kael’s thumb grazed my cheek, cleaning the tear and steadying me. “You don’t have to answer now. Just… let me in.”

We were laughing like crazy throughout dinner until a story comes up about the night that ended badly for me. Zoning out remembering the awful things that happened, I unknowingly let a tear slide. Grabbing my hand Keegan snaps me out of the flashbacks. "You're okay, you're here, safe with us" He whispers but by the way Jacob and Elijah looks at me I know they heard some of it and probably putting some of the pieces togeher.

His eyes were wide and wet and I held his gaze until I was certain he understood every word.
