There is only him and me, and the reduced, burning space that separates us.
I sit up. The movement is slow, a rising of the earth. I kneel on the sofa, facing him. Our faces are now at the same height. The air between us becomes thick, charged with ozone, like before a storm. I raise a hand, place my fingers on his lips. I feel their warmth, their slightly chapped texture, the warm breath that passes between them.
"Speak to me," I murmur. "Not with words. Show me the silence you want to break."
