“Silas has always been cruel. You just didn’t see him for who he was.” She shook her head violently. “No. He was supposed to be my perfect husband.” And then, before I could react, her hand shot from behind her back and clamped around my throat. “If killing you once wasn’t enough, then I’ll do it again,” she hissed. “No—!” My fingers clawed at her steel grip as the air thinned, each gasp harder to catch.

“That’s exactly what she wants. Fear.” Briggs sighed. “Sarah—” “She already confessed,” Sarah cut in. “Not last night. Days ago. When I went for that walk.” Briggs blinked. “Confessed?” “Yes.” Sarah leaned forward, her eyes burning. “She didn’t deny sending the first assassin. The one now rotting in police custody. I recorded it.” Briggs opened his mouth to respond but the sound of the front door opening interrupted him. Both of them turned. Scorpion walked in, his movements purposeful, his expression unreadable. He crossed the room without a word and stopped in front of Sarah.

Tears and snot streamed down her face as she banged her head repeatedly on the floor, her forehead quickly turned bruised and swollen. "I'm begging you. I'll find a way to pay you back. I swear I will. Just let Dwight go!" The two officers frowned but remained silent, their eyes fixed on me. I looked down at the woman whom I had once cherished, trusted, and who had ultimately tried to take my life. I watched her, without a second thought, discard every shred of dignity for her brother. In my previous life, when I was curled up in the hospital in the late stages of stomach cancer, racked with pain, did she kneel before the doctors like this, crying and begging them to use the best medicine?

“Skye had to leave early this morning. There was some emergency with her work.” Zara looked surprised. “I thought she spent the night at your place.” “She did,” I said with a small smile. “But she left around five to meet her partner. They’re working on a murder case.” Zara sighed. “That explains why she wasn’t picking up.” “Yeah.” I paused, then gave her a playful look. “So… we were both scared of a mama cat and her kittens. And that loud sound was probably just the box of toys falling over.”

Sara, stared horrified at what her mother had done to her best friend, lunged over the dying dog, trying to protect him from her mother’s rage. Layla simply didn’t care. The knife fell again, driving through Sara's s forearm, and down again, into Rubble’s body. Thinking to protect her dog, Sara curled up around the knife, wrenching it from Layla’s grasp. Howling in outrage, the woman began to kick, and flared up at Sara with the pipe. The feeling of hot pain as the metal and feet continued to rain down on the poor girl soon became numb as the world slowly folded into blackness, and Sara finally passed into the void of unconsciousness.

She had, after all, envisioned herself to be here in this very same place a million times before if she were to succeed with her plan of killing her parents. This was therefore a milestone in her life! The thought of her ‘comforter’ or ‘savior’ did pop up in her mind and although there was little dismay she had never entirely trusted him to come get her anyway. Who in their right mind would risk getting caught with the charges of murder when they had nothing to do with it? She would have, if given the opportunity but sure not everybody had her kind of fun in their mind as a pastime or hobby. But after having killed two people she realized that it was more fun than she had initially thought.

The hall plunged into darkness before snapping back on a second later, triggered by the violent force of her sobs. Dad stood completely rigid, his eyes fixed blankly on the elevator doors. Just before the metal panels slid shut, a single stray corner of the white sheet was visible. Then, it vanished. That night, the neighborhood group chat erupted. Sophia had left her cell phone sitting on the entryway console table. The screen remained lit, glowing brightly in the dark apartment as notification after notification flooded the screen in a relentless cascade.

Mia admitted, “Maybe… maybe it was just to get back at me for being a terrible friend…” “Or,” I suggested, angered by her sudden morality issue, “Someone set the trap for her, and she fell for it! Riana or Clara, none ever told him anything about the incident. So it was news to him. Seeing Jackson so shocked V immediately knew that he didn't have any idea about the incident. And that made him internally laugh as just a moment ago this very man was claiming himself as the fiance of a girl who was the protagonist of that big incident he has no clue of.
