They believed they had already succeeded, and as the convoy engines roared to life outside, I could not shake the fear that the fracture they calculated was not finished because if phase two required Ruin to choose between his empire and me again, I did not know which version of him would survive the decision. The convoy sped toward the airstrip and the words “phase two” echoed in my mind, I realized that Black Meridian had not only predicted Ruin’s rage, they had designed a scenario where he would be forced to choose between saving his empire or saving me, and this time I was not certain I could stop him.

Anger rushed to my face. Running away is the dumbest thing he could offer. No one escapes Salvatore Mancini; not even a strand of hair can pass through the city’s exit without him knowing. I have destroyed him before so he knows just what I’m capable of. Doesn’t matter who you are, I’ll ruin you if I have to.”

“What did it do?” Renji started walking. “It marked her descent.” “That is not an answer.” “It is the only one we have time for.” The ridge curved into a field of ruins. Broken towers leaned through the water. Roofs lay half buried in pale sand. Statues of crowned wolves watched us pass with empty eyes. The sunken kingdom. Not Vaelora. Older. The Tide Crown sent trembling reflections across carved walls. Words appeared as I approached. FIRST KING. FIRST QUEEN. FIRST BETRAYAL.

Instead of punishing him, I simply stared into those golden eyes that once made me believe in forever. “Keep saying my name,” I whispered. “Every time you do, I remember exactly why I became the Queen of Ruin.” I pried his fingers off my coat and stood. As I reached the door, my pager buzzed violently. Security breach attempt on the northern residence wing. They’re getting closer. I looked back at Justin one last time. He was watching me with shattered intensity — pain, lust, love, and regret all twisted together. The second plea had failed. But something told me the third one would be far more dangerous.

“But I guess trouble already finds you interesting- judging from how the most feared Dominions in the academy have their eyes on you. One wants to kill you. One protected you, and you fell on one’s feet.” She pauses as if contemplating if to say something, then- “Talking about the one you rolled onto his feet, do your very best to stay away from him. His name is Xaden Draven incase you aren’t aware.” My chest immediately plummets. But that isn’t only what I feel- A scent slips into my lungs like smoke, curling through my senses, wrapping around my mind in a way that makes my steps falter. My head turns before I can stop myself.

Damon's POV West Haven slowly returned to life. The castle had suffered damage during the war, but it still stood proudly overlooking the kingdom. Repairs continued daily. New banners hung from restored walls. Broken stone was replaced. Gardens were replanted. The kingdom was healing. The day Kent and Claire officially resumed their positions as King and Queen, nearly the entire kingdom gathered. The ceremony wasn't extravagant. Nobody wanted extravagance. What the people wanted was stability. Hope. Home. Aurora stood beside me as Kent walked through the castle courtyard.
