I chose a slim, double-edged push blade and taped it flat against the underside of my left breast, inside the fabric of my bra. I moved carefully so it wouldn’t nick skin. Next, four steel hairpins, long, sturdy, sharpened at one end. I twisted my hair into a high bun and slid them in deep, points hidden. They looked innocent, but they weren’t.
I zipped the hoodie up to my chin, pulled the sleeves over my hands, and headed downstairs.
