The crystal filaments seared, and the knight’s rig jolted, releasing its suction grapple. He plummeted past Vera, arms flailing before vanishing into the abyss below. The second knight spun, firing a sidearm—but Vera ducked under the swing and stabbed the lance’s tip into his pauldron. Another surge of violet fire ripped through circuitry; the knight’s suit convulsed, collapsing in a riot of sparks.
