I was hoping to see something else. Sucking my teeth, I was about to close the safe when something caught my eye. It was a small brown leather-bound book tucked into the corner and wedged tightly between the stacks of bills. Curiosity burned through me, and I pulled it out. The gold lettering on the front read Lila’s Journal. “Bingo.” I opened the book and flipped through the pages. Lila’s handwriting was neat and precise. I could tell this was a glimpse into her private thoughts and her innermost secrets.

Lacy said pointedly. "Really? I wonder what he would think of Mrs. Lacy Lacrosse?" Lily threatened, grabbing the little book from the drawer of her sister's old desk. Lacy looked at her with a horrified expression. "You wouldn't," she cried before jumping at Lily. She reached for the little pink journal with Lacy Lacrosse written all over it. Lily dodged her and then grinned. "I think I just might," she said smugly and raced out of her sister's room and down the stairs.

But deep down, it didn't feel that way. The weekend had finally arrived, and as I was lucky enough to have weekends off, I was spending the morning in the bookstore with Lila. It was during a lull in customers that I saw the book. It was tucked away in a corner of the shelf, almost as if it had been deliberately hidden. The cover was worn, the title inked in faded letters: 'The Werewolf Legacy of New Orleans'. I pulled it out, feeling the weight of its pages and the history that lay within. Lila looked up from the cash register, her eyes widening when she saw the book in my hands.

The library was always my sanctuary, a place where I could escape reality and lose myself in the pages of a good book. As I wandered through the aisles, I came across a book that caught my eye. It was titled "The Mystics of Lycans". Intrigued, I pulled it off the shelf and flipped through the pages. The words were unfamiliar, and I struggled to make sense of them. They seemed to be in a language I had never seen before. "Zephyrion milarath velindreth, thalorion symphoria. Ancalima thranduil caladron."

Finally, she found the one she was looking for. Layla managed to grab the book and add it to her stack in her arms when her eyes caught sight of something. A book stood out among the rest. It was bound with dark brown leather and had brandished designs on the spine. The title read - Malleus Vampiro: A Treatise on Vampires. Placing her other books on the floor, Layla pulled the leather-bound book from its home amongst the others and opened it. As her eyes skimmed the pages, she caught a couple of words; SHADOW STALKERS, BLOODSUCKER, PHANTOMS.

Alissa stared up, she thought she could make out books but she couldn't be sure. Luca dialled and someone answered almost immediately. Alissa climbed the small stone steps as he spoke to Blake. She looked at what were indeed books, large leather volumes sat within the walls. Alissa pulled one out and her suspicions were correct. They were the McBayn's pack history, she opened the one she had in her hand before Luca called up to her. “Everyone's fine, come on better go.” She huffed but put the book back.

Zoe stared at the book, her fingers hovering over its worn cover, tracing the cracks in the leather and the faint symbols etched into its spine. It felt… alive.
