He made it seem like I didnt weigh a thing, even though I knew I was heavy. “Chew on this” he said, handing me a dark green colored leaf with silver veins. I knew I was safe around him, he wouldn’t sabotage our alliance, but I still wasn’t sure I wanted to eat from the hands of a murderer. “Take it” he insisted “Its Silverleaf. It wouldn’t heal you completely, but it will slow down the wolfbanes effect so you can make it out of here” I was too weak to continue to resist, I opened my mouth wide open, and allowed him feed me the leaf.

Liam, with an air of familiarity, stepped forward toward the tree. I quickly locked eyes with Lucas, raising a curious brow. The veins running through each leaf looked as though liquid silver flowed inside them.

Finally, Chief Virjan spoke, announcing our arrival. “This is it, Ari. The home of the Nightleaf.” As we reached the ground where the Nightleaf grows, I was in awe at the sight. The rare plant was everywhere, small fields of Nightleaf stretching out before me. I knelt on the ground, captivated by the beautiful flower with leaves resembling the crescent moon, and tiny white flowers sparkling like bright stars under the moonlight. It felt magically stunning, as if the plant's leaves were plucked from the night sky itself. The Chief smiled at my amazement with the magical plant they proudly cultivated.

He takes one of his own healthy leaves and places it gently on top of the rust-red cutting. “Share,” he says, very serious. “Like we do in school.” The healthy leaf shivers, then dissolves, not dying, but becoming sugar that sinks into the rust-red leaves. In some spots, the branches jut out more and form shelves while in others they are so sunken into the wall that if they were the same color as the wall you would not be able to tell that htey were even there. Next, Sage walks in. She starts to add some leaves to the tree branches. Each of these leaves has a picture of a family member on them. The leaves are silver and have an amount of detail that is unrivaled. The veining of the leaves is what creates the pictures themselves. There are lots more leaves that are left open so that we can add more in the future. So far, there is a leaf for Elle, Frank, Dante, Hazel, Julia and myself.

Then, the soft scrape of boots as Leo adjusted his weight. “I’m not,” he said. He absolutely was. I pinched off one last leaf, then rose, brushing soil from my knees. “You patrol everywhere,” I said, finally looking at him. “Funny how ‘everywhere’ often includes exactly this spot right after dinner.”

She nodded, though the slight pinching of her brows showed she was not expecting me to know. My gaze fell on another, "Etherleaf." I stated, staring at the plant with sheer green leaves edged in silver. "To induce dreamless sleep." I turned around to face her, "Why do I feel like you might have used this before on someone?" It is harmless, but I could see a mischievious side in her. It sounds like something she would do. She shrugged. "Maybe I did, maybe I did not."
