Ronan sat on a raised stone dais across from me, his legs crossed, watching me with a look of clinical fascination. "Where is Zayden?" I rasped, my throat feeling like it had been scrubbed with sandpaper. "Zayden is currently tearing through the northern woods, slaughtering decoys and losing his mind," Ronan said, standing up and gliding toward me. His movements were different from Zayden’s—where Zayden was a landslide, Ronan was a snake. "He’s so predictable. He leads with his heart, which makes it so very easy to cut it out."

“We all made choices that brought us here. But the important thing is you’re safe now.” The door opened again, and Ronan, Jace, and Theo stepped in. Ronan’s grin was wide, his usual confidence shining through. “Well, you sure took your time,” he said, dropping onto a bench with a dramatic flop. “We were starting to think you’d joined some band of wandering spirits.” “Ronan,” I said, though a faint laugh escaped me. “You’re impossible.” “Maybe,” he admitted, stretching. “But you’re alive, so I guess I can be forgiven for worrying.”

Damon coughed into his fist, which I’m pretty sure was just him hiding a laugh. I threw my hands up again. “Ohhh, great. Everyone’s amused. Perfect. Fantastic. Should I juggle too? Maybe do a little interpretive dance of despair?” “No dancing,” Damon deadpanned. I squawked, “You’re supposed to be on my side!” Ronan ignored all of it—typical—and lowered himself onto the opposite couch like a king about to announce war strategy. Except instead of some dramatic reveal, he just leaned forward, elbows on his knees, and let out a slow breath.

Caelum said. "Yes," Ronan said. "He is patient. He builds systems that produce results over years, not months. He has never been the person who acts directly. He finds people who act for him, and he positions himself far enough back that the connection is difficult to trace." "Until the connection is traced," Caelum said. Ronan: "Yes. Which is what Petra Voss has spent twelve years doing." Caelum looked at the timeline on the desk.

And just in time, his eyes moved to the entrance. Ronan stood there. He was holding a champagne glass, the other hand tucked into his pocket, standing in front of some security personnel. But it didn’t look like he was listening to what they were saying. Because he was staring back at Lewis. One could see the pride he was feeling from the smirk on his face. And that stuck with Lewis. Because once, he’d been on that side. He’d been the one to invite Ronan to his showcase with that smirk on his face.

“You thought you could run from your past, Kael, but here it is, catching up to you. And it’s not just you who’ll pay. She will too.” Kael moved in front of Sasha, his body a shield. “Touch her, and I’ll kill you.” Ronan smirked, unbothered by the threat. “Bold words for someone who’s already broken.” The tension was suffocating, and Sasha’s mind raced. Who was Ronan? What pact was he talking about? And why did Kael look like he was fighting ghosts? Before anyone could act, Ronan raised his hand, and a wave of energy erupted from him, slamming into the three of them. Sasha was thrown to the ground, the breath knocked from her lungs.

I stared at it for half a second, then locked my screen. No pressure. Just a man’s entire career quietly hanging on my hands. I exhaled and turned up the music. He showed up on time. Of course he did. Ronan Hale pushed through the door with the same controlled frustration as yesterday, crutches moving in a rhythm he’d clearly practiced alone. No drama. No resistance. Just quiet stubbornness wrapped in a hoodie a shade darker than his mood. His knee brace looked tighter today, like he had tried to fix something he didn’t fully trust.

I said as I fought a smile. “You give them everything and this is how they treat you,” Gabe sighed. “I’ll get started on your mythical. I’m Adea. What can I get you?” I asked his friend. “I heard. I’m Leo. I’ll take what Gabriel’s having,” he said. He wore a white baseball cap flipped back, his blonde hair was shaved short, but long in the front. He was handsome, his light brown eyes stared at me with interest and a hint of jealousy. As if there was anything to be jealous about between me and Gabe.

Zane's Point Of View Miles leaned in, close enough for me to feel the heat of him. "You’ve got a little…" He reached forward, thumb brushing the corner of my lips in a slow, teasing motion, before leaning back like nothing had happened. My pulse spiked. Across the room, Ronan’s gaze was a storm. The kind that cracked the sky in half. "Ronan? Are you sure you're fine?" his fiancée’s soft voice asked.
