“No Aria I am not” “Good.” He opened his book again and I looked at it. “What are you reading?” He showed me the cover. “It’s a mystery novel.” I raised an eyebrow. “Is it good?” “Yeah.” “What is it about?” “A detective investigating a murder.” I made a face. “That’s dark.” “You asked.” He said and laughed I laughed. “Can I read it?” He looked at me. “You want to?” “Yes.” He shifted the book slightly so I could see.

I didn’t hesitate. I pulled Fifty Shades of Grey first (cliché, yes, but I needed an entry point), then The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty by Anne Rice, Story of O, a slim volume called The New Topping Book just to balance it out, and two anthologies with titles like Bound Hearts and Surrender to Me. The stack felt heavy in my arms, like contraband. I carried them to the my corner and hid them under the table. I sat down, and opened the first book.

The grand library glowed with the soft amber light of floating lanterns and a roaring hearth fire that cast long, dancing shadows across towering shelves. Guests had retired for the evening after another lavish solstice supper, but the manor refused to sleep. Enchanted books rustled faintly on their own, pages turning as if reading scandalous secrets aloud. Elara slipped inside after midnight, telling herself she only wanted a quiet moment with a novel to calm her racing mind. In truth, her body burned.

The library was quiet, the afternoon sunlight filtering through the stained-glass windows. Anna sat alone at the far corner, the mysterious book, The Reflection Game, spread open before her. Her finger traced the intricate designs on the yellowed pages, her heart pounding with both excitement and unease. The cryptic instructions whispered to her, their meaning elusive but tantalizingly close. She didn’t understand why she felt so drawn to the book, but she couldn’t let it go. It was as if the book had chosen her, as if it were calling her to uncover its secrets.

I beamed. "Crazy, isn't it?" "Fucking crazy, for real." "First, we put THE DA VINCI CODE by DAN BROWN here." He picked out the book and inserted it in the center line of the shelf. He put HOW TO STOP TIME by MATT HAIG, followed by EVERGREEN by NAOMI HIRAHARA. "Then KISS THE GIRLS by JAMES PATTERSON." He put it next to the first book. "I've read that." I went on in a spur of excitement. "It's a thriller and mystery novel about a detective who's trying to track down a serial killer. So many twists and cliffhangers. Total page-turner." I giggled.

Not knowing what to do within the four walls, sitting under the tutelage of two friends, she spent time reading books. The library is large and caters for every taste, from historical novels to mysticism, 20th century literature and Sherlock Holmes antiquarian collections, the first as far back as 1902. But no matter how much I liked to dive into the worlds of the authors, I was haunted by a thick layer of dust on the shelves and books. I decided to do something useful and clean these treasures from years of dirt.

My goodness, it was so cheesy, I almost couldn't take it! Mindy's face froze, caught off guard by the sudden mention of her past literary works. Apart from embarrassment, all she felt was the awkward urge to disappear into thin air. Everyone loves a good mystery don’t they? Especially to things that we can never really know the truth about.” He looked at her perceptively. Again she felt as though his words held hidden meaning and guilt flooded her at the thought of her true intentions.
