"It consumes continuity." He continued. "When a person dies naturally, something remains. Memories survive in stories. Families remember names. Legacies endure through those left behind." His eyes drifted toward the darkness. "The Hollow Arc devours that process." A cold sensation spread through the clearing. Because we all understood what he meant. At least partially.

"We're the Sullivans, and one of us might marry Summer someday. You’d better watch out, or you might lose your jobs!" I heard him and laughed, but I was really mad. "Acting all high and mighty in front of my hospital room? I don't even know you guys. Why would I marry any one of you?" Nelson ran up to me, trying to grab my hand, but I pulled away. His eyes were red, as if he had been crying a lot. "Summer, I talked to the doctor. He said you might have lost your memory because of the surgery. "It's okay. If you forgot us, we'll make new, happy memories together. It'll be our way of making things right, okay?"

I asked as I pulled it off and set it on the table. Lucas chuckled mockingly as he grabbed the ring from off of the table. “It seems like we’ll be erasing her memories again.” He sighed dramatically. My brows furrowed as I slowly looked at him in confusion. “Erasing her memories again?” I asked lowly. “Are you sure?” Dr. Hickory asked hesitantly.

He wanted to fall asleep but she couldn't. Pearl's mind was suddenly bombarded by a flood of memories, fragments of imagery and sound that seemed both familiar and foreign at the same time. It was like trying to grasp at smoke, the details always slipping through her fingers before she could fully register them. The images were mostly blurry and indistinct, as if she was viewing them through a glass that had been smeared with grease. She strained to recall more details, but it was as if the memories were just out of reach, taunting her with their elusive nature.

Cool water begins to creep up my skin, extinguishing the fire, one inch at a time. His words from a decade ago return to me, haunting and sharp. They echo over and over. Save me. I do not understand why they linger or why he lingers… The flames dissolve. The scene dissolves. Darkness surrounds me, and cold water presses against my back. My limbs feel heavy as I lie submerged, staring up into the blackness. A presence shifts beside me, familiar and ancient. “ Why do I keep seeing these memories? ” My voice is raw, the words escaping with a shiver. “ Why am I dreaming about things I could not even recall before? ”

If I could just turn back time but it wouldn't. The echoes of past experiences, whether joyous or painful, tend to reverberate in the corridors of memory, leaving a subtle but indelible mark on the journey forward. It is the familiar scent that lingers in the air, the faint whisper that tugs at the heartstrings, and the bittersweet nostalgia that colors the present with a sense of wistful reflection.

I was going to bottle it up in my mind and burn the memory of it in my ears so there was no possible way of me forgetting it. I traced my index finger over the ridges of his muscles, sliding down the dips and valleys that were more prominent now than they were a year ago. I ogled his skin that held a golden tan, licking my lips the way I wanted to lick my way down his body. Every bit of him. I was going to carve out a space in my mind and dedicate it to remembering every detail that made up this man so if this went south, I'd still have my vivid memories of him.

he reminisced. “You still remember what happened?” He looked down, “I try not to … but sometimes it comes in bits and pieces like flashes of images and if I’m not careful I could get sucked into it and relive it all over again.” “Wow … that was a long time ago, can you still remember it in detail?” He rubbed his eyes and tried to erase the images that were creeping into his mind. “I’m sorry … let’s talk about something else, I didn’t mean to bring up bad memories … is it true that you have a photographic memory?”

The weight of sadness settled upon me like a heavy fog, obscuring the colors of the world around me. I could feel the weight of my memories, or lack thereof, pressing upon me with each passing day. The fragments of my past danced just beyond my reach, teasing me with their elusiveness. There were moments when I felt as if I could almost recall them, the tendrils of familiarity attempting to anchor themselves in my mind, only to slip away like water through clenched fingers. It was a tormenting cycle, leaving me perpetually on the precipice of understanding, yet forever denied the truth.

Out of curiosity, I went close and read the printed words. 'In the loving memory of Rowan Black Smith' 'In the loving memory of Heliana Smith' The name seemed so familiar, it's like I already heard those names.
